“Really close to him” – Jurgen Klopp names Liverpool stars who have taken Luis Diaz ‘under their wings’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has named a few Reds players who have taken January signing Luis Diaz under their wings to help him adapt to the league.

Diaz was signed from Porto in January for over £ 40million and has already settled in well at Liverpool. The Colombian scored the opening goal of the game against Brighton on Saturday and looked unplayable at times with his pace and trickery.

Although Diaz has scored just twice for Liverpool so far, his performances for the Reds have been impressive.

When a new player signs for a club, he usually takes some time to settle down and form a rapport with his new teammates.

Diaz, however, has had the benefit of rubbing his shoulders with several south American stars, who Klopp said have taken him under their wings.

The German manager said:

“So, he is a very good player, let me say it like this. We don’t have groups in our team but there are a few guys who speak obviously Spanish and Portuguese and it helps Luis a lot and they take him under their wings – very experienced players like Thiago, Fab[Fabinho]Bobby[Firmino]they are all really close to him, Diogo really close to him and that helps. “

“But in general, he’s a really nice kid. I am not sure exactly how Harvey Elliott and Luis talk but they are quite a lot together. It means the boys settled as quick as the player. It’s not so easy to bring in a player in the winter without any kind of pre-season but with Luis it was so interesting because the way he played at Porto is exactly the way we wanted him to play here, so he didn’t have to change really. ”

Diaz will be a key player as Liverpool seek to win more silverware

Liverpool’s performances of late have dipped, but they continue to deliver results on the pitch.

The Reds returned to winning ways on Saturday after their 12-game winning streak across all competitions was halted by Inter Milan last mid-week.

Diaz’s addition has added a lot more spark to their attack as it was evident the Liverpool frontline needed a bit more freshness.

Having won the Carabao Cup, the Reds will hope to win more trophies this season. If Diaz keeps up his form, their chances of adding more silverware will only go up.
